Spring Moving Tips for a Successful Spring Relocation
Colonial Van & Storage is the premier Sacramento moving company, and we are getting ready for our spring season – which is typically quite active. For the most part, spring is an ideal time of year to plan your home or business relocation. Why pick springtime to make your big move? Here are two great reasons:
- The
Weather: Who wants to move during the oppressive summer heat or the coldest
winter days? Our Sacramento
movers handle many cross-country moves, and moving to Maine in the
spring is a much more pleasant experience than moving to Maine in the winter!
- Good Time
to Sell a Home: According to
Bankrate, spring is the best time of year to sell your home. Homes listed
during this time sell an average of 18.5 days faster that those listed during
other months. Also, spring listings brought a price that was 1% higher.
Sold on the idea of a moving in the spring? We’ve put together a few tips for a successful spring relocation.
- Reserve
Your Moving Company Early: Because spring is such a popular time of year to
move, it is a good idea to reserve your commercial or residential movers as far
in advance as possible.
- Consider
a Garage Sale: Moving is the perfect time to thin out your belongings, and
spring is a perfect time to hold a garage sale!
- Give
Employees Time to Prepare: Obviously, you will give you employees as much
notice as possible about the relocation, but be sure to also give them plenty
of time to work on move-related tasks. In other words, you might need to relax
a bit about some of your employees’ normal duties. While we, as your Sacramento office movers, can handle most move-related jobs, your employees may need to
have time to arrange files, shred documents that won’t be making the move,
interviewing candidates for the new location, etc.
- Pack for
the New Home or Office: There is a good chance that your new space is going
to have a different setup than your current home or office. When packing, label
the boxes to reflect the new place. This will make unpacking much easier.
- What’s
the Weather Like Where You’re Going?: Spring weather in Sacramento is
different than spring weather in Nebraska. Be sure to pack some clothes that
are appropriate for your new city in a bag that you keep with you during the
move.
Spring Moves and School
For all that is good about moving during the spring, there is one big challenge: It’s the middle of the school year. Whether it’s your own kids or the children of your employees, moving during the school year can be trying. Here are a few tips for a mid-year school change.
- Visit the
School: Bring your child to the school before their first day. Let them
meet their teacher and learn how to get to their classrooms. Knowing where they
are going on their first day of class can make it a lot less stressful.
- Meet the
Neighbors: When you move in, visit the neighbors to see if any may have
kids who are the same age as yours. Having a friend to help introduce your
child at the new school can make the transition much smoother.
- Contact
Teacher/Principal Ahead of Time: Each school has different rules and
routines. Contact the new school ahead of time and learn as much as you can.
This will give you time to go over anything that is different with your child
in advance.
- The Old
Friends: Thankfully, moving to a new school mid-year doesn’t mean giving up
old friends. Thanks to cell phones and social media, it’s easy to stay in
touch. Encourage your children to stay in contact with those friends and
teachers who were special to them.
- Stay
Positive: Even though you’ll be able to empathize with your child’s
anxiety, don’t let him or her know that! Tell them while it’s normal to feel
nervous, that a new school is an exciting opportunity to make new friends!
